This girl has graced my blog many times now here and here, but we made the most of her baptism shoot by taking pictures of Brooklyn and her sister doing one of their favorite things, Dance!!

I love the freckles here, I think it captures such a fun age of childhood.

The trees in the back ground and the circles on the ground make this pictures such a fun abstract piece of art, don’t you think?

I didn’t know Kase beforehand but I think we captured his personality pretty well. I loved incorporating his car and I even caught him texting. He was polite and quickly tried putting it away, but I thought hey why not take a picture, its a part of his daily life.

Another cute family, near a very cute door where I’ve been taking a lot of pictures lately. It’s amazing to me that it doesn’t matter where you take your pictures it is the family that brings so much personality and difference to your pictures. That’s the way it should be! It has just been easy to compare these last two photo shoots and how different they are from each other because they were taken 24 hours from each other. My daughter and Shala’s daughter are very good friends at school, so my daughter enjoyed seeing me edit pictures of their family this past week. I played around doing a lot of different things to these pictures, Above is a fun “vintage” look and then a beautiful high contrast black and white of their little dude. I’m a sucker for black and white pictures. If there is a certain look you are looking for, like vintage, sepia, b/w and so many others please let me know before the photo shoot that this is what you are looking for, I would love to do it for you.

I cracked up when this little dude pulled rock star hands out of no where. I feel lucky I captured it! I had to add this pic of him and his dad.

This family rocked it!! It was so fun meeting both of Shawn’s kids for the first time and I love what they chose to wear. Aren’t the daughter’s shoes to die for? This is the second time I’ve shot at this location and the contrast of their outfits and the brick setting made for some awesome black and white pictures and a whole different look.

I love the picture down below. I was aiming for a picture like this as we were walking to another location, but you really never know how it is going to turn out until you take it. Well I love how the sun is shining through above their heads and the girls rockin’ it with their purses. It gave it a whole rock star look to me.

What should I wear to my photo shoot?

Picking the right clothes is one of the most frequently asked questions I get asked. So what to wear? Well, your clothes should reflect your child's/family's personality. Fun and loud? Go for bright colors and accent patterns. Calm and quiet? Go for neutral colors that go together.

Are you planning on putting up a big picture in your living room? You may want to consider colors that will go with your decor too.

I put together a "how to" guide for deciding what to wear to your photo shoot. (This is basic advice for family and group photo shoots, but much of the advice can be applied to individual shoots as well.)

Step One:

Choose clothing for one person first
You don't have go out and buy all new outfits for your photo. Most times, you can get a great look by building your clothing around one person's outfit. It's usually best to start with the person in the group who has the least amount of clothes or who is hardest to pick an outfit for. Look through their closet for a great piece you want them to wear for the photos.

The picture above shows a good friend of mine’s kids and I love this picture because it shows the families fun personalities but nothing too distracting where it brings it all together to focus on the kid’s faces.

Her youngest daughter is really into wearing petticoats, she would wear them everyday if she could. So she based the families wardrobe off that outfit and the colors she put together. I think it came out nice.

Step 2:
Build the rest of the group's outfits based on the first person
Now that you've got one person's clothing done, you can build the rest of the group's outfits.

General rules to remember when choosing outfits.

Keep in mind where you are going to be shooting
Are you going to be indoors or outdoors? Is the area paved, muddy, rocky, or grassy? What kind of colors would look best in that setting? If you will be outside, it's a good idea to wear clothes you would be comfortable sitting on the ground in.

Stick to one style
Make sure everyone in the group is wearing one style of clothing such as classy (formal wear, suits, dresses, etc.), casual (shorts, t-shirts, sandals, etc.), or contemporary (a mixture of classy and casual--like a dressy top with jeans and heels).

Avoid loud patterns or huge logos or words on an outfit
Smaller patterns on part of an outfit look fine, but keep it to one or two people in your group. Patterns should compliment each other, not draw attention away from the main subject of the photo, you!

Colors don't have to match, but they do need to go together.

Clothing from the same color pallette or based on colors in one outfit tend to create a cohesive look without feeling too "matchy." I love fun and vibrant colors; they help the portraits "pop" off the screen or print, but remember, the emphasis of the photos should be on your faces, not your clothing.

Think about shades of black and white.
Since your package may include images in black and white, you will want to think about how your outfits would appear in those shades.
Bring accessories and props that pull together the outfit
Using props and accessories is a good way to get different looks out of a single outfit. Think about things that characterize you and your personality: scarves, purses, shoes, items from your line of work, hobbies, and interests.

Hands and Feet
Often, I will take photos of details like hand-holding, rings, and family feet! Remember to clean and trim nails for these shots. For feet, if you have matching shoes or shoes in the same shade, that's a plus. Of course, we love bare feet too.

What to bring

A comb or brush and hair-spray if you use it, a light face powder to reduce any shine on your face that may build up during your shoot, and lip balm for ladies and the gents. Dry lips don't show well in photos and so a non-shiny, non-waxy, none colo red lip balm is essential. Avoid chap sticks, as they tend to leave a white residue

I love this picture of her sitting on the Mesa temple steps. I can’t help but think in a few years she will come out of those doors married in another white dress. How they grow so fast, but not too fast Brooklyn.

I feel so lucky to take pictures of such beautiful families, and Misty’s family is no exception. We had worked ahead of time to trade her husbands services for pictures. I love trades and welcome them!! So don’t hesitate to ask.

This was a fun shoot where they showed a lot of personality. I had asked them to put their feet in the center, and found it cute that all the kids, even Misty pointed their toes towards the center. You see, all their kids and even their mom are gymnasts, personalities shining through.

This was one of the few pictures where I got this little guy to sit for us, his attention span was all of 5 minutes, but never fear I think we still got some good ones when daddy stuck him in the tree. Don’t worry, no children or animals were harmed during the filming of this production.

Gotta love a good black and whitephoto.

Seriously How cute are they. Sitting next to the flowers and flowers in their hair was all their idea.

There’s a lot going on in the background of the picture above, but it struck me when I saw the beautiful facial expression of the older sister being embraced by her older brother. I can tell the relationship is so strong between them, and how awesome to capture that.

I had the privilege taking pictures of this new moms first baby colt less than 24 hours old. There is something so special about seeing a newborn, and for me it was my first seeing a newborn colt. They are so tiny but so strong. I was impressed with the kinds of things this little girl could do in such a small amount of time since coming out of her mother. What a special treat for my children and I.

I have taken this couples photos since they began, when they were engaged, when they had their baby and now a growing family. I love my sister and I am so happy that they have recently moved back to Arizona from Virginia. Kathryn wanted a desert landscape and this was such a fun place to take them to for a variety of desert backdrops. Who knew the desert could be so pretty.

I loved the facial expressions captured here; isn’t she a doll. I couldn’t decide which picture I liked better, the black and white or color so I put both of them up.

I also had a lot of fun playing around with Photoshop and doing a few new poses.

I couldn’t decide which picture I liked better! The close crop of their hands or the one where she is holding her daughter and looking at her hubby. I think they are both nice and couldn’t help but include both of them. Playing with some sun flare! I loved the entanglement of these trees, are we really in Arizona?

Some of my favorite pictures in a family photo shoot are the outtakes; you know the ones where they probably won't land in a picture frame in the family room but capture such familiar expressions of our kids on an almost day to day basis.

For example, I love looking at the expressions of each child below as they dote on one sibling or another.

Or this little guy crying and the reactions from his sisters and the non reaction from his baby brother who is still fast asleep.

This little guy's awesome hair and facial expression as his daddy tries to wake him up.

or the tightly wrapped finger around his mothers.

The bond of sisters,
and and of course finding all the kids climbing the tree and noticing how cute, lets hurry and put the parents in the middle for a cute shot.

Yup, they are all cute.

Birthday Photo Shoot

My daughter celebrated her birthday last weekend with her cousin; they are best friends! I thought it was a good time to take nice pictures of the both of them. They were such hams, posing for me as if they were models. I had a lot of using different effects in Photoshop and I just adore the pictures below; I know I am biased and maybe that is why there are so many pictures. Enjoy!

Aren't they a cute family? Ok, I think I'm begining to say that with every family, but it so true.
We woke up bright and early for this shoot and little B. was not happy about it. It took awhile to get her to smile but once she did she's got a cute one. She and I took turns taking pictures, which put her in great spirits, but learned for future shoots to double check that all the buttons are set in the right place. It altered a lot of potential great photos. But I think these turned out great too.

I had soo much fun shooting this family. They loved being in front of the camera and why not they are a beautiful fun family. I branched out more on this shoot with more creativity and thus had a lot of favorite pics with this family. I adored feeling the tremendous love they had for each other.

We were fighting daylight at this point, but for some reason we kept going and still came out with some great shots.

I love this pic!! I find myself studying it for some time noticing everyones facial expressions and body language. Too cute!

I had the privilege of witnessing this adorable family be sealed in the Mesa Temple and to take pictures afterwards. So much love was there that day, and I think you can tell from the pictures too.

My brother and his wife have the cutest family. I loved taking pics of them and their new addition. They were so much fun, especially with little B's funny faces, he's a crack up.

I have the best husband in the world! He took note that I love taking pictures, and pictures of my family no less. He saw how I would often become frustrated with my blurry pics, and how can you not when you have three children constantly moving around. So for my birthday he surprised me with my beautiful camera, a DSLR. I was and still am in heaven for this blessed gift.
I don't think he realized how much I loved this gift let alone use it every week since I've received it. It's been a wonderful hobby, a creative outlet, and a challenge for me to one day conquer.

I love this pic of little C. It depicts his personality and the stage he was in at the moment. Whenever he sees a flower he immediately runs to me and hands me the flower. I've often wondered about this kind gesture, where did he get it from. I didn't teach him, and why do flowers remind him of me? How very sweet.

Seniors, Family, Children and Newborn $150

This includes time and talent of the photographer. A 60-90 min. photo session, photo editing and a disc with 20+ full resolution photos and a printing release form.

I will shoot both individual portraits and group portraits for the family photo shoot, up to 6 people.

Engagement $200

This photo session includes up to 2 locations, photo-editing and a disc with 30+ full resloution photos and a printing release form.
